TouchOSC Mk1 App Reviews

Difficult

Very difficult to setup, and still do not have it properly setup. No real help from the developers website. If you can get it to fully function, I imagine it is great.

Splendid and STEEP Learning Curve!

I agree with the steep learning curve, but dont let that turn you away from this amazing app. I had to read and reread the instructions before I finally got it. It takes patience and a lot of persistence, but once you get it down, the results are completely worth it. Now I can record vocals in a separate room without dashing back and forth from the computer! Nice!

IM BACK ON MY MEDS, PEOPLE!!

Man, I went a little whacko there for a while, but Im back on an even keel. Cheers!

Wasted 2 hours ... No functionality

This was a waste of my money. The documentation is sparse, disorganized, outdated with respect to app/interface changes, etc. I could NOT get it do do anything with Ableton Live. I really tried. Oh, and apparently youll need to shell out an additional ~$40 for the OS X app/server. The whole thing feels like it was set up by committee than a focused developer. Its incredibly frustrating. Comparatively, I got touchAble and its server up and running on iPad within 10 minutes... And that works well.

Inaccessible

Overly complicated when MIDI designer does all of this right in the app, intuitively. Also, doesnt do sysex.

Good as it gets

Why spend buku bucks on a lemur when you can use your current phone or tablet? Ive bought this on google play and the App Store and I still feel like Im getting it for too cheap. The idea of making your own controller was something I always wanted and now that I can do that for $5 without even taking up a USB port in the studio Im blown away. Whenever I have someone over to collaborate on a track I just hand them a tablet so we dont have to switch seats all the time to get ideas in. This app has saved me tons of time and money!

Fantastic alternative controller

4 out of 5 stars as its not an app that is easy to learn. But, if youre into controllers for your DAW or music production utilizing OSC, this is a no brainer. The sites documentation is pretty well laid out. The app has a lot of feature, just not as pretty as the bells and whistles you might get with a more polished app. But I kinda prefer the stripped down approach to the interface – keeps you focused on the task at hand instead of just being pretty graphics. I use this app in conjunction with Logic 9 Pro, Reason and Reaper.

Great Apps

First up , you definitely smashed it with the design controls and response, love the third party plugin support, and also hanks for not being greedy its way below the price of the other alternatives. My suggestion would be for more colour options when designing custom layouts maybe a glow that interacts with the tempo,oh and up the marketing I found lemur and touchable first before I even knew touch Osc existed. But all in all great job, and looking forward to killer updates. ....also can you only control one midi channel via the virtual keyboard or is there a way to set it to swtich to different midi channels so that it doesnt play multiple at the same time..thanks

set up, etc.

i imagine set up would be difficult for people not accustomed to mucking around in network settings and this sort of thing. i found it fairly straight forward by following the instructions on the website. with the iPad Logic Remote as an easy alternative, i imagine these developers of TouchOSC will have to up their game though. given the price and the potential (i see this as having great potential, not unlike Logic Remote), this gets 4 stars. make switching to new preset layouts easier and provide more explicit videos for set up, and i will be forced to give this app 6 stars. ok, not possible, but you know what i am saying.

If only if only

I got this for use with Propellerheads DAW, Reason. When I first downloaded it, I browsed the interface and templates and I must admit it was pretty sweet. When I tried to hook it up to my Mac, I watched an outdated tutorial from Propellerhead, not Hexler. This required I use the $40 software everyones talking about, OSCulator. I downloaded it, tried it, and got TouchOSC to talk to OSCulator in my MacBook. Nice! I then however, couldnt get "OSCulator out" to send Midi signals to my DAW. Seriously, Hexler? Can you please give an update that makes for a more user-friendly controller app? I want to use this app. Give me a reason to give it five stars. I dare ya!

Ableton 9 loves this app!

It took a little fanangaling to get everything working, but this is one of my favorite apps. If youre using Live 9, there are three things you need to download on your Mac in addition to this app on your iPhone/iPad. Get the TouchOSC Editior, TouchOSC Bridge, and LiveControl version 1. Most links for LiveControl are for version 2, but version 1 is what you need for Live 9.

Could be better.

This is an amazing MIDI Controller. Out of box, you can control Logic Pro X and Live 9 directly. There are two presets for these two DAW. That is great news for me, cause they are my favorites. But I still have a beef about TouchOSC. I wish dev could change how the knobs react when you touch them. For now, any touch will change the knob. It is very easy to mess up your setup. Logic Remote has a better solution. TouchOSC should learn from it. For this I rate TouchOSC 4 stars.

Cant run a show without it

In event production, it is crucial to be able to react to ever-changing scenarios. Being able to drive MIDI lighting consoles over wifi from anywhere in the venue is a huge help in getting everything just right. And the customization of the interface makes literally anything possible.

Perfecto!

Awesome app. Highly recommend to everybody. No need to set it up, or spend time trying to figure how to hook it up! Works perfect!

Good, One thing though.

When I first got this app, it confused me on how I could route it to ableton. Then I discovered OSCulator. It lets you route OSC signals to midi notes and such. It works great. The only thing I think this app needs is a layout editor within. The app. The one on the computer is great, but you cant use it on the go. I think it would be awesome to have a layout editor for the mobile versions. It would make the 4.99 I spent even more worth it.

Difficult to set up

I havent been able to set up this app with ableton 9 yet. Most tutorials Ive found are not up to date. Please post a recent tutorial on your website.

mind-blowing

I bought this app primarily to control Propellerhead Reason. I quickly realized that there are no built-in templates for Reason, and to create them myself would require an exorbitant amount of time and effort. Then I found a separate product called RetouchDuo which is specifically made for TouchOSC and Reason. Though its $45 its absolutely worth it. The amount or control and live feedback that you get with it is more powerful than midi controllers Ive seen that cost way more. It would be nice if TouchOSC included these templates, so I almost gave it 4 stars. But I am so impressed Im leaving it at 5 for now.

CANNOT BELIEVE

How many different parameters are Premapped for Ableton with LiveControl. Configuration is simple and takes only seconds. Works perfectly using Iphone 4s to control Ableton Live 9 suite(9.1 and beta) running Vista on a Dell Inspiron 1525 over Ad-Hoc. Installing Loopbe1 worked instantly to get TouchOSC pads and keys to send midi (could Not get PureData, Midi Yoke, or the osc bridge to work for me). Tested by controlling tracks in 2nd floor bedroom studio while walking down to 1st floor kitchen and back. No Noticable lag or dropout anywhere. Now I need an iPad.

text on buttons not showing on iphone version?

great app overall, but for some reason I cant see the text overlay on the "menu" buttons on the iphone version. I thought it was my template, but it happens with all the out of the box templates as well. otherwise great in what it was designed to do!

Good, but please make TCP!

Very usefull and easy to use and setup app! Love the way it just works. But there would be much more implementations if there would be TCP Network option instead of just good old UDP. Thank you!
